Can be used to post-correct viscosity in adhesive manufacturing

Functions as an organoclay thickener for sealants & construction adhesives

Recommended Applications of Organoclay Rheology Modifier for Adhesives & Sealants.

CP-720A is applied as an anti-settling additive for adhesives and a viscosity control additive for adhesive production in:

Pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA)

Hot-melt adhesives

Sealants & construction adhesives

Polyester resin adhesives

Vegetable-oil-based adhesive binders

High-viscosity industrial adhesives

Structural adhesives needing sag resistance

Using Method in Adhesive Formulations

CP-720A can be incorporated directly into most adhesive systems without pre-gel preparation.

Standard Dispersion Procedure

Heat the main adhesive binder to ~60–70 °C (optional but improves efficiency).

Add CP-720A slowly under stirring.

Typical dosage: 1–3%

High-thickening systems: 3–7%

Continue dispersing for 10–20 minutes with proper shear.

If binder polarity is low, add 95/5 acetone/water activator:

20–30% of CP-720A weight

Add remaining components and mix 20–30 minutes for full rheology development.

Deair, filter (if required), and pack.

FAQ – Organoclay for Adhesives (CP-720A)

1. What makes CP-720A an effective organoclay for adhesives?

CP-720A provides strong thixotropy, anti-sagging, and viscosity stability, making it ideal as a rheology modifier for adhesive formulations.

2. Can CP-720A be used in different adhesive systems?

Yes. It is widely used in PSA, hot-melt adhesives, construction sealants, polyester adhesives, and vegetable-oil-based systems.

3. Does CP-720A require a polar activator in adhesives?

Most adhesive resins can activate CP-720A directly.
Low-polarity systems may require a small amount of 95/5 acetone/water activator.

4. What is the typical dosage of CP-720A in adhesive formulations?

General adhesive formulations: 1–3%
High-thickness or structural adhesives: 3–7%

5. How does CP-720A improve adhesive performance?

It enhances:

  • thixotropy

  • anti-settling

  • storage stability

  • sag resistance

  • film uniformity

  • heat stability

6. Is CP-720A suitable as an organoclay thickener for sealants?

Yes. It works well in sealants, caulks, and construction adhesives requiring strong rheology control.

7. Can CP-720A help prevent settling of fillers and pigments?

Yes. It is designed as an anti-settling additive for adhesives, keeping fillers suspended for long-term stability.

8. Does CP-720A affect the color of adhesives?

No. Its light-yellow fine powder forms a light-colored, high-clarity gel, suitable for clear or light-color adhesives.

9. Does CP-720A help with viscosity post-adjustment?

Yes. It can be added during the final stage to post-correct viscosity.

10. What storage conditions are recommended?

Store in a dry, cool, ventilated place and keep the package sealed to prevent moisture absorption.
